2012 Google Doodle winner – Dylan Hoffman

If you used Google at all today, you undoubtedly noticed the awesome logo featured above the search box. Today’s art was the work of second grader Dylan Hoffman of Caledonia, WI, United States. He was the winner of the 2012 Google Doodle contest, in which there were over 100,000 entrants!

Dylan Hoffman's 2012 Google Doodle artwork

Not only did he earn international fame by being featured on Google’s homepage today (18 May 2012), but he also won the following prizes and honours:

  • $30,000 USD in college scholarships
  • A Google Chromebook
  • $50,000 in technology grants for his school
  • The privilege of having his artwork on the Crayola 64-count box of crayons

I must admit that his drawing is far better than what I could do, and he’s only eight-years-old. He should be quite proud of this achievement, and of his work!

Congratulations, Dylan!

Tag progress

Well, after chugging away this evening at the processing of tagging all of my previous posts, I’ve found that it is not only tedious, but also quite time consuming. I was only able to get through the most recent 50 posts, but I don’t think that’s all that bad for a start. I would imagine that it will take me a good portion of this weekend to get through all of them, but it will be worth it in the end, as it will allow everyone to click through posts of similar topics (though not similar enough to warrant corresponding categorisation).

Cheers,
Zach

Category changes

Today I made some changes to the category structure of the blog.

Firstly, I added a “Food and Drink” section, which will be used to review restaurants, dishes, and libations that I try. I’m hoping that it gets a lot of use as I continue to learn and understand more about the wines of the world.

Secondly, I added the subcategories of “Music” and “Film” to the “Multimedia” category. As I go through and tag previous posts, I will also be reclassifying some of them accordingly. I decided to leave “Photography” separate from the “Multimedia” category, as it is essentially just my own work.

Thirdly, I added the “Travels” category, which will have journals about my trips. I have a bunch of those posts that I need to reclassify now. 🙂

Lastly, I removed the “Ramblings” category as it only had four posts. For now, I’ve just moved them into the “General” section.

Cheers,
Zach
